Minecraft LIVE 2024: The recap!

All the news from the show

ree

A new biome! A new hostile mob! Insight into A Minecraft Movie! Secret footage from the Minecraft office. Awe-inspiring words from our developers including the legendary Jens Bergensten himself. We managed to pack all this and more into Minecraft LIVE 2024. Now you get to read all about it! Alternatively, you can watch the show below but where’s the fun in that?*

*Disclaimer: there’s actually a lot of fun in the show. You should probably watch it.

The pale garden and the creaking

Minecraft continues to grow in ways you might never have expected. Agnes, Jacek, Jasper, and Sandra share a first-ever look at the pale garden and its eerie inhabitant – the creaking. Everyone knows Minecraft is “creative” and “fun” but if you’ve played a bit, you’ve probably experienced some scary moments too. The pale garden is taking cues from that side of the game.

At daytime, the pale garden is peaceful, but as night falls the biome takes on an eerie mood. And that creepy feeling might turn to fear when you meet the creaking! Dare to look at this hostile mob and it’ll freeze in place. Attack it directly and your swipes will have no effect. You’ll need to search for its creaking heart block for a chance of survival.

Learn more about how you can actually defeat the creaking and what you might earn from the pale garden in Minecraft LIVE 2024, then watch the after show where Lydia hosts Jens, Anna, and Marco as they show off the new features. We’ll be sharing more news on this drop soon.

From the General's Desk...

Ok...here we go...

After watching Minecraft Live (which wasn't LIVE, by the way, because all of it was pre-recorded) I find myself walking away with mixed feelings. My first impressions on the new hostile mob, The Creaking, and the new biome, the Pale Garden, is that the Mojang developers have done a fantastic job again. Though the release of these concepts were initially fraught with leaks, their additions into the game are still a pleasant surprise. The introduction of a new biome is ALWAYS a big winner to the Minecraft community, and its unique feature show alot of creativity and originality. I particularly like the hanging moss, the carpet moss, and let's not forget that now we have a new wood variant that is white on the inside and has a particularly awesome bark design on the outside. I have to admit that initially when I saw the leaked photos of this new wood variant, I was not jumping up and down in my seat with excitement. I just could see myself building with white wood. However, after watching Minecraft LIVE, and seeing the examples of a white wooden fence surrounding a garden, my mind has been changed. The contrast between the white, pale wood and the vibrant colors of the garden were very eye-appealing. I love how the carpet moss alters the look of the surrounding blocks and creates an image of blending between the blocks. The hanging moss seems like a cross between Overworld vines and the Twisting and Weeping vine variants seen in the Nether, as the new hanging moss very literally hangs from underneath blocks. The new trees in the Pale Garden seem to be like their dark oak cousins, except that there are random wood blocks attached to the side of the trees that fail to connect all the way to the ground. All of the trees seem broken in a way because of this, which just ads to the originality of this biome. And this is also reflected in the newest hostile mob, The Creaking. I am quickly reminded of the Tree Ents of Middle Earth. The Creaking seems just as broken and contorted as the surrounding trees.

The Creaking... Tree Ents...

I remember long before I stumbled into this world, my father, Durin VI, brought me once to visit a particularly sleepy tree Ent. He called himself Treebeard, I think.

With the Ents showing up in this world now...

(has the portal been discovered?)

Well... that was all a very long time ago. Today, we have some new, wonderful additions to our world. But there are still some HUGE lingering questions that for me was not answered. Will there be another amazing use for the Creaking Heart? Because if there is no real use for it, then what will be the reason I will want to go into this forest? There has to be something that will make me WANT to go in and risk my life again such fast, cunning creatures. Also, what is to stop me from taking down all the trees during daylight so that I can harvest ALL the Creaking Hearts without any confrontations. Perhaps the Creaking Hearts should only morph from the wood during nighttime, and return as normal pale wood during the day. This would force me to venture into the forest during the night. But then there will still be the question of what good is having the Creaking Heart in my inventory? There just has to be something more. As a final suggestion, one way to get me into that forest, day or night (especially night) is to let no other mobs spawn in that biome except for the Creaking, not even passive mobs. This way, the creepiness of the forest will be accentuated by the fact that there are no mobs in the forest...just silence...and creaking....
